Live On Campaign – Suicide Prevention

(KUTV) — May is mental health awareness month. Benee Larsen joins Fresh Living to talk about the Live On Campaign and the services they offer. 

Live On is a statewide effort to prevent suicide by promoting education, providing resources, and changing our culture around suicide and mental health. Benee says if you are listening to or reading this message, you play a role in suicide prevention.

‘Live On’: Preventing suicide in Utah

WASATCH, Utah (ABC4) – This month, the Wasatch County School District is partnering up with Live On in the hopes of bringing awareness to suicide prevention. 

To further advocate for the cause, the district will be hosting various events which will be available to the entire Utah community.

Utah’s first lady joins young students, calling for more efforts into suicide prevention

(KUTV) — Utah’s First Lady Abby Cox is joining young students from the Wasatch County School District as they spearhead a discussion on suicide awareness. 

Together, they are welcoming and encouraging more efforts in schools to help struggling youth know there is support.

HEBER CITY, Utah (ABC4) – Utah First Lady Abby Cox will join students and officials from the Wasatch County School District for a virtual town hall on the topic of suicide prevention. 

During the town hall, how students can get help and offer peer support for mental health will also be discussed. 

Mountain Middle School, Timpanogos Middle School, and Wasatch High School are partnering with the State’s suicide prevention campaign Live On to share creative messaging and materials in schools through the end of the school year by promoting education, providing resources, and shifting culture around suicide and mental health.

Here’s what Utah is doing now to address ‘tsunami’ of mental health needs

Utah and the nation are in the midst of two pandemics, and one of them shows no signs of slowing down. 

That’s according to the leader of Huntsman Mental Health Institute, the Beehive State’s largest psychiatric treatment and research center. 

The state’s crisis hotline, managed by the institute, is receiving more than 11,000 calls each month — more than 350 calls each day. The average length of text conversations between those in distress seeking help on the SafeUT app and counselors has “increased dramatically,” said Dr. Mark Rapaport, CEO of the Huntsman Mental Health Institute and chairman of the University of Utah Department of Psychiatry.
